Description

This exciting collaboration of guitarists Pete Oxley and Swiss-born Nicolas Meier has finally recorded their debut album! Comprising original compositions (by both guitarists) plus standards by Corea, Nascimento and Metheny, the music truly travels on a contemporary journey through jazz via Latin, Spanish and oriental influences.

The duo drew from a broad sonic palette by taking 10 diverse guitars on the road with them. The resultant variety of textures contributes to the sparkling, positive and spontaneous atmosphere heard throughout the entire album.

In November 2011, Oxley and Meier were touring the West Country (Cornwall, Devon, and Somerset) where they recorded four concerts. The album represents the best moments from this tour: “Travels to the West”!

« ...Meier is elegant in tone and bubbling with ideas... his originality as a writer, a player and a team leader dispatches any doubts...»
John Fordham, The Guardian
«...Since John McLaughlin melted frets with the Mahavishnu Orchestra we have become used to frenetic guitar-led groups. None, however, quite mixes styles and sounds like that of Meier, a Swiss player as happy in flamenco and Arab melodies as he is in Western jazz...»
